This was so much fun. I uploaded a pic of a man dressed as 'Count Orlok' We where entertained the entire visit. A must see when in Salem.
Pretty cool. Line moved quickly. Went over the Halloween weekend 2014. Would recommend. Creepy inside, cool props.....
One of my favorite hangout spots in Salem on my days off! An amazing horror/sci-fi collection all the way from the silent era up to modern day. Cliff is super-friendly and informative! And there is lots of my main men, Vincent Price, Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing!
If you have watched any movies in the past four decades, go see this. There was a wide range of characters from Jason, Freddie, Creature from the Black Lagoon to Boris Karlof and even Angelica Houston as her character from "The Witches"! They change the displays as they get new content and at Halloween they have actors in there as well to scare you!Highly recommend for teens and above.
Loved it! Totally go if you're into horror movies. It was great to walk around without any staff members following you around.
Super disappointed, my partner and i travelled from Boston on a day trip to Salem. Even though we had checked all the websites and opening times Count Orlok's was closed when we arrived (which we didn't find out until we called their number). I understand that being winter some stores and attractions are closed but maybe they should have the correct opening hours on their website.
The first time we did Halloween in Salem (2009) everything was magical. We arrived days early before the crowds and I had bought tickets in advance for almost everything, including Count Orlok. I was impressed with the quality of display of monsters they have. It is a fun trip through, and not expensive. We had package tickets this time, as well, but I don't think it was over $10 to get in. We went again this Halloween, we did the haunted tour again, as well. It was different tour. It goes fast, as they are pulling you through. So, I can't stress enough to go through first without the lights out so you can enjoy the displays and read the plaques. It is full of life size monsters from Frankenstein to beetle juice. Then go back for the haunted version. There are tickets that include both admissions. A tip I would strongly recommend, as this applied both trips, line up EARLY. We walked away this time for a few minutes, nobody was there and it was about 15 minutes before they let people in. We ended up in line for nearly an hour. That is how fast it fills up. Salem has about 100,000 people come in to party for Halloween, so all the attractions fill up fast on the actual date of Halloween.
We are so sorry to hear that any patrons aren't pleased with their experience at Nightmare Gallery, whether in the Museum or Haunted House. This seems to be a case of a patron who perhaps entered during the clearly-explained time of the Haunted House, when they may have better enjoyed the Museum. We do indeed tout ourselves as Hollywood Monster History, because thats what we are and what we feature. During the hours of the museum, there are many life-size recreations of Hollywood Movie Monsters made from people who work in the special effects industry. As for Clown Night: Most people who came through that night enjoyed it very much. We could tell from their reactions and comments inside, as well as outside after they were through. I will have to correct the reviewer however: there was at no time “simply three people dressed up in clown costumes.”, there were 5 actors working that night the whole time (myself included, the manager of the back of the Haunt.) We were in clown costumes, yes, as expected. We don’t make it a practice to scream in people’s ears, however (Our actors are very good at scaring people, and have many years of experience between us, so instead we rely on our experience and skills.)Perhaps a leisurely stroll through the Museum (during the posted Museum hours) would have been a better choice for this reviewer.
Since I am not a fan of haunted houses, we went during the day just to check out the nightmare gallery. Like another reviewer stated, if you love monsters, macabre, and horror but hate being scared the gallery is the perfect level of "horror". The life-size statues were incredibly true-to-life and the accompanying information for each was very in-depth and interesting. Yes, it is not a huge gallery, but a nice size and they do tell you when you begin that to truly enjoy the experience it is best to slow down and read everything - which we did and we ended up really enjoying ourselves. For the price of a ticket, it was definitely worth the visit. If you are visiting Salem and looking for a little escape from everything "witch" then I certainly recommend checking out the gallery.
The plethora of life-size statues are very detailed and cover generations of horror film characters and actors. If you love horror movies this is definitely the place for you.
It was too short ,and not really scary. Thank god it wasn't more then $9 bucks! But if you go during the day to the movie horror gallery sooooo worth the money!! One of the best things to see when your there!!
I LOVE monsters but do NOT like being scared therefore I can’t compare this to any of the haunted houses in Salem. But I can absolutely say if you like Monsters you do not want to miss this attraction. The quality is superior to any other activity that I did in Salem. It looks like something you’d see in Disney World or Hollywood itself. I had the misfortune of touring the Salem Wax Museum earlier in the day so I almost decided to skip this place. I am so glad I went. The size of the museum is small but there is so much packed in to every inch that you get a full display of creatures. My advice is to skip the low quality, boring Salem Wax Museum (which I was expecting to be great) and put your money here! You will be glad you did.
Although the place is rather small and most of the creature sculptures are from classics that I have never seen, the quality of the recreated creatures is phenomenal and even though we opted to avoid the scares (when they turn it into a haunted house at night in October) we really got spooked! The way they display them is even more terrifying than the movies they were in. Also they have a large number of autographed stills from horror movies that are equally cool. If you're not really into horror movies and you plan on going to a bunch of other museums in Salem then maybe the price is a little too much, given it is a rather small museum, but it's entirely worth it if you recognize even one of the monsters displayed there as it is a very cool experience to see them brought to life.
Best haunted house I've ever been to. Do not go here if you don't like being scared. They come very close to touching you without actually touching you.
I've been to Salem a number of times, but recently travelled with my 23 year old daughter. She loved the museum. Well laid out and the wax figures were quite life-like. Admission was $8, not bad. She bought a t-shirt with Psycho on it, which she plans to wear on Halloween. Nice place and worth a visit.
