pilgrim monument & provincetown museum

The monument itself is tall, narrow and dominates the scenery of the town from just about anywhere being at the top of one of the tallest points in town. It's a lot of stairs and long inclined ramps to get to the top. Admittedly one person in our party had a severe fear of heights and started getting vertigo trying to scale to the top and I managed to pull a muscle trying to keep up with the more eager person in our group and ended up not making it to the top. I was told the views were quite lovely but you can see quite a bit without having to go all the way up the monument just from the grounds around it. The museum is small with a few exhibits with a large gift shop for all your tacky tourist tchotchkes. The entrance price didn't really feel worth the price for entry. Still, if you have to get to the highest point in town to snap some photos, you won't get any higher than this without a helicopter or plane.

Taking the drive to Provincetown takes time, but it's a pretty drive. The museum has some great information about the area and the walk out to monument is not far. Can get some nice pictures of the area, but if you have any kind of knee or heart problems, the climb up to the top of the monument might be too strenuous.

The climb to the top is not bad if you're in good shape, but those who get winded easily will want to stick to the museum and taking photos from below. It was interesting to read the plaques on the way up from the states, towns, and organizations which contributed to the building of the monument. The view from the top is lovely, although there is also a nice view of the town from the base. The museum rounds off the visit by illuminating the historical background of the area.

This place is chock full of amazing history of the Cape Cod area. The climb to the top was a bit tiring, but completely worth it for the view. We went on a less than ideal day, but we could still see a good deal from the top of the monument. The museums at the entrance are where history buffs like myself get all excited. It was much larger than I expected and had a lot more information than I anticipated. If we had more time, we could have stayed for another hour just reading and learning about Cape Cod's history! It's worth taking a good chunk out of your day to learn about just about everything in Cape Cod's history.

When you walk in it's very confusing on were you go to pay,but once we figured it out we made are way to the whaling room(which gave quite a bit of the Cape's whaling history) From there we headed outside to climb the monument. to be honest it didn't look bad from the ground,lol! At about the half way point I was hoping my husband was going to quit but NO! Once we reached the top,relaxed for a minute,and caught our breath we realized how beautiful the views were....so worth the climb up there. Then it was time to head back down(much easier) we spent the next 45 minutes going through the rest of the museum.At least hubby and I can cross that off the bucket list!

Climbed to the top of the tower - in VERY cold weather! But was still very cool - lots of plaques and info on the way. Museum was very interesting.

We went up the monument with 50mph winds outside, which totally freaked me out. But once we climbed back down, we visited the museum to give me a chance to collect myself and it turned out to be much larger than I originally expected. If your interested in the history of Provincetown or the monument itself it's worthwhile.

We made the decision to make the trek to the top of the monument - it was easier than expected, with ramps instead of stairs for the majority of the ascent. The museum was far larger than we had originally thought. A fun stop in Provincetown.

We climbed the Pilgrim Monument which took up about 15min and lots of stairs. Kids run up and down quickly but we had to take our time and climb the stairs. It was worth the climb when we got up and saw the view. You can see the tip of Cape Cod, MA from the top. You get 360 degree view of Provincetown and fee like top of the world. We saw the ocean, boats, the town and surrounding area. Also there's nice museum at the bottom and we spend another hour learning the history. I had fun and would do it again anytime.

This is a wonderful Museum on the history of the whale fishing, which actually brought the people to this area, as all the sailing ships would put into Provincetown with their sailors from Portugal, Spain, etc. This was a famous port and the history of the Captain's and families who settled here is so interesting. There is so much to see you should allow 2-3 hours. The monument to the Pilgrim's who settled here is also a beautiful site looking over the city and sea. A stop you would all enjoy.

Almost ran out of daylight, but we went for it anyway...last ones up the tower for the day. Fun hike up, some steps but a lot of ramps made the climb easier. Great views from the top. The museum was much larger than we thought and had tons of great history.

We could see the monument from a couple miles out as we drove towards P-town. The most dominating building in the area with no douth. If you're a history buff this is a must see.

When Labor Day passes and the crowds die down in Provincetown- it is one of the best places to visit on the Cape. And the view from the Pilgrim Monument is worth the climb. On a clear day, you can see Boston.

We made it to the top and got our sticker! Since I am a Mayflower descendant, it was a pleasure to see all this information.

Was easy to walk even though I have had two heart attacks. And was well worth the walk MAGNICENT View
