deep creek lake state park

Our favorite hangout for beach time in Garrett County, Md. The park is lovely, lots of huge old trees, deer, chipmunks and serenity.The freshwater lake is crisp and invigorating all summer long. There are BBQ grills and picnic tables behind the beach area, making it a popular spots for family gatherings. Kayak rental is available. Sunsets in the mountains are beautiful.

We went to the park to go on a hike, but not sure we really found the trails. We ended up walking around and exiting in the campground. But we did visit the nature center and that was very cool!

Parked looked nice. The beach areas was fairly large. You do have to pay to park there to use the facilities. We just drove through to look at it.

This is a heavily wooded well-kept state park camground in a great vacation area with a jewel of a beach (very family friendly) and decent facilities, however, note before you arrive that the camp store is very small and limited (but there are a ton of other store options nearby). Here are some campsite tips in our order of preference, which preference is for wooded private-ish sites that are not too isolated from the other sites: 84, 36, 27 (great if you like to people watch as is right near entrance and hosts so quite a bit of traffic goes by), 93, 107 (best site right near a bathroom), 5, 59 (best isolated/desolate site), 70, and 45.

Quiet surrounded by beautiful nature. Very economically priced. Staff was friendly. Down side - electric only on limited number of sites. Lots of tents. Bathrooms are clean but dark. Wish there were a dish washing stations at the bathrooms. State park beach is nice size and not overly crowded. Lots of hiking trails. Campfire rings and attached grills at every site. We enjoyed our week long stay despite losing power for several days because of a bad storm. Surrounding area full of things to do and see.

You can rent these right at the park. There is a small beach and swimming areas, picnic benches under shade trees with grills available.

The state park had the only (that we could find) beach area on DCL. Price to get in was reasonable (half price for MD residents, free for active duty military) and a very relaxing day on the beach while our daughter played in and around the shallow roped off sections of water. Overall, great experience and will certainly go back.

We just love this state park. It has a little bit of everything, and the rangers are great. Great for hiking and swimming and camping

The park offers a beach, camping and a boat launch. But it also offers an excellent hike that starts at the office and goes up the mountain, across the ridge and then down a gradual path to the camping area. Its a very nice 4.5 mile hike that offers great shade from the summer heat. The top of the mountain is a bog so the path is constructed of old railroad ties and looks like something from another time.
