There are many things to do, hike, picnic, sports, etc. This is a great place to gather the family for a cookout.
This park has lots to offer, jogging and bike paths, hiking trails, archery ranges, boat rentals, picnic areas, etc.The best part is catching the local Dagorhir group doing medieval combat on the soccer field! So much fun to watch!
I have grown up visiting this place, and I just love it here. My favorite time to visit is in the spring. I love to see all the beautiful animals.
Lake Needwood is a great place to walk or hike. Just don't touch the water! It is dangerously polluted.. Seneca Lake is a safer place for tcurious kids.
You can hike completely around the lake, although there are places without a clear trail. This is a nice place for gatherings.
It's a great place to spend a couple of hours with your family or even alone. It has beautiful trails (paved and natural) that goes around the lake. You can rent a paddleboat or bring your own small set-up.
We had fun with the kids seeing turtles and birds on the lake. The staff were friendly. The lake is somewhat small, but that was just fine with us. We brought a picnic lunch, and enjoyed ourselves.
Lake Needwood is a 75-acre (300,000 m2) reservoir in Derwood, Maryland just east of Rockville, in the eastern part of Montgomery County that is located on Rock Creek. Once I followed the GPS to the address, there is a few car parks, I followed the sign to the trailhead carpark. There are a few trails, there is a 13.5 miles for bikers and hikers to Washington DC. I took another one that is supposed to be around the lake. I thought it was call the Blue Heron Trail, but it is not on the link today when I check it again. In any case, I was lost, the signage was poor, there are detours all over the place, because the park is going through some construction. The lake is nice. There is a boating area where you can rent kayak, row boat, pedal boat, canoes and there is boat tours as well. You can just show up and there is a little house by the lake where you can get things arranged. It is a nice Sunday out but I wish the signage could have been better.
Nice scenery, golf nearby. Trails and a lake, as well as other opportunities for fun. Not sure if rafts can be taken.
We like to take the bike trail that leads to this place. Very idyllic and shadowed most of the time. The lake area is very relaxing after the ride. We usually pack a light picnic and it and rest there before heading back.
loved the kayaks! lots of fun! go early on a sunday or anytime weekday. fun watching the activity on the lake.
We venture here often as it is close to home. The lake is beautiful and spacious, the area is sprawled with grills, tables, shelters and good walking trails. Our son loves to play near the water and watch the fisherman at work. There is no swimming in the lake and water should not be ingested due to Microcystin produced by algae. We sometimes take a canoe out on the lake, the boathouse is open during the spring and summer months.
I love the picnic shelters here. You have to pay the county to reserve the shelters for your event or family gathering but if you are willing to take the "risk" of just looking for one that is not reserved, you may be lucky and get a great spot for free.
I have walked here several times with my dogs, The trails are leisurely walks, and well-marked. The lake is clear, and beautiful to look at, and it appears to be a great family place with boat rental, picnic tables and grills, and plenty of parking. For me it's just a nice place to get away from the frenetic life of the city and having it so close to home is a major plus.
We are regulars at Lake Needwood. This is not a complicated walk. But it is a nice 1-1 1/2 stroll, with some short trail offshoots to add to the journey. Paddle boats are offering for rental on the pleasant lake. Lots of picnic facilities, too.
