I ran the first 10k from Portland along the coast and it's a lovely coastal trail. I wish I had time to run more of it.

The Great South West Walk starts and finishes in Portland but in between there is a 250km track that meanders through forests, Glenelg River, Beaches and the awesome Capes and coastlines of this part of south western Victoria.I took 10 days to complete the walk and felt that this was about right for me .... The first day leaving Portland wasn't great as too much of the day is spent walking on or near bitumen roads. I also wasn't that excited about Day 2 in the forest but subsequent days provided amazing diversity and proved to be a great walk. Our shortest day (17km) was spent almost completely on the beach which while fairly monotonous was inspiring initself due to the remoteness of Discovery Bay - we say no one in 5 hours! There was a wide variety of wildlife on offer .... numerous birds, kangaroos, emus, koalas, echidnas, snakes (I saw 4 on the track) and seals at the seal colony at Cape Bridgewater. The walk is accessible in many places so can be undertaken as day walks or shorter walks to suit any arrangements. For those camping walking camping sites are reasonable well maintained with toilets and a shelter with picnic type table (fees apply to Parks Victoria if camping)I highly recommend this walk for its diversity and personal challenge of such a long distance walk.

Great walk from the blowholes to the seal colony and back. Spectacular sea and coastal views - pity there were only two seals visible on the day but enjoyed the walk anyway.

What an amazing experience. The walk weaves you along the rugged Portland coastline. I hope to do it again during whale spotting season

I live in the amazing seaside city of Portland Vic and we have one of the best kept secret natural attractions of a world class walking trail. It winds along our diverse sea coast which features the highest seacliff in Australia, along great winding sandy beaches, inland across amazing heathland thriving with beautiful birds and kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas everything typically Australia. It follows the gently flowing but majestic Glenelg River, famous for it canoeing and camping and loops back to seaside city of Portland. A must do.

Brilliant views of the coastline, great for sunrise photography and whale spotting. The walk takes you to a seal colony and there are plenty of birds if you are into birdlife.

GSWW is one of my favourite memories as a kid. As my dad was a scout master and knew i was super keen on the outdoors, he enrolled me into scouts at a young age and the GSWW was a walk we would constantly hike for adventures. It has beautiful scenery and can be very long and challenging if you plan on doing the whole 250 kms over the course of a week or so (which we did on year 10 camp including Mountain Bike riding, Hiking, Horseback and Canoeing. DEFINITELY worth the trip though! You can also just visit parts of the walk around Bridgewater Bay etc and do a nice hour or so walk to see the seals. Recommend!

We walked two sections of this walk - Cape Bridgewater to the Blowholes and Nelson to the Glenelg River Gorge near Hasletts. Both had striking scenery, local flora and fauna and far fewer invasive plants than we expected. This is a tribute to the volunteers who maintain the tracks. We found the free guide books on the Great South West Walk from the Portland Visitor Centre (near the harbor) very helpful.

My partner and I decided to go for a small walk and we enjoyed every minute the scenery was fantastic as were the views! Remember to take the camera!

The scenery around this area is fantastic. You choose how far you wish to go or whether to split the trip into sections. Walk for an hour or two or spend a few days on the trail. Don't forget the camera, water and aeroguard!

I just did a small section of this walk to go and see the seal colony. It was spectacular. It was just under 2 hours round trip starting at the car park. I was also lucky enough to see a huge mob of kangaroos. Well worth it.

Best way to de-stress and re-energise, don't put it off any longer, get out there in the great outdoors and start living... best walk ever

short walks, long walks, coastal, national park - things in between. there are shelters, things to bbq on and drop toilets at places you can camp at. I have only done 1-4 hr walks. Amazing coast line.

Starting from Portland, Australia this is a long distance walk with designated camp sites along the way. It is also easy to pick out sections and do these as day walks. Great variety of areas , beach , cliff top , forest , Nelson River Gorge , or riverside walking. The wild flowers in Spring an extra bonus.
