26 km from Sur Bike to Valle de la Concepcion where most of the wineries are. Sadly, all the industrial wineries (also la Casa Real) close Friday afternoon till Monday morning. We only found 2 open wineries and as one didn't have any food to offer, we went to la Casa Vieja. Many many people there, cold (take warm cloths!) (best take food, too) and the wine tasting was only available as free. Only had a sip of a cup, shared with about 10 others. No information about the wine, nothing. They were just passing us through. Well, the bike tour was really hard. We're not unatlethic but it was hard. Very many and steep hills - of course the same in downhill, too - GREAT FUN to bike down those streets. The man in sur bike shop was very nice and helpful. We took a taxi back because we only left at 2 PM, you should leave early if you want to enjoy the ride and maybe ride back too (wouldn't recomend it, though, terribly steep hills on the way back)

The part Sur Bikes were responsible for was fantastic; the bikes we were given were top-notch mountain bikes, as was the repair kit, bags, helmets and overall service. We got a taxi out of town as advised then cycled to Valley de la Conception, to Canyon de la Angastura, then back to Valley de la Conception from where we got a taxi back to Tarija. The taxis were peanuts and meant we didn't have to slog along busy, steep roads, and theoretically gave us leave to drink as much as we wanted. I'd really recommend this route - it's about 2 hours of cycling.Here lies the rub; the actual wine drinking, for which Sur Bikes are not responsible of course, was a bit of a let down. The novelty of drinking Bolivian wine wore off almost immediately. Lots of the bodegas/wineries were closed or didn't fancy serving us, and the ones that were open had pretty poor wines. Still, it's a really fun experience, just don't go with high expectations for the wines. We had a inexpensive 'menu' lunch at the Mercado in Valley de la Conception - delicious. NB: the owners at Sur Bikes don't speak any English. If you've done a wine tour in Argentina this is completely different but equally worthwhile.

Punctual and well organised. I went on an excursion to the Camino del Inca in the Sama reserve organized by them and had a very good time. The guides were friendly and professional. They organise hikes to various places around Tarija.

The owner of Sur Bike was very helpful when my wife and I rented mountain bikes to tour the Valle de la Concepcion wine region. The bikes were OK and we were provided with a map, tools, etc.. in case of problems. We had no issues during the 72km ride. I also went back and rented for a couple more days to tour other areas around Tarija, which again was trouble free.

the guys there were very friendly didnt speak english but did everything they could to explain to us where to go and what to do if we got into trouble. would advise take a few snacks not much food around the winery area and if you drink as much as we did you'll need it. great day, the bikes were really good quality, great gears, mine even had disc breaks. just to warn you though it is mostly up hill on the way back from the winery if you make it back without having to get a taxi back.cost us 80Bs for the full day. (taxi back would be about 25Bs around there each)the best winery there was Villa casa had a great tasting session with a few extra glasses thrown our way thanks to Gabriel, was tehn 30Bs for a 1 an 1/2 liter jug of the wine of your choice. we had two between three of us and ended up in the bushes on the way home then got picked up by a taxi. wicked day!!

Get a bike, talk with the guys at Sur Bike and get know the region. You can do the wine route, but other options available. We already did the wine ride by car, so we did another part of Tarija by bike. It's perfect when it doesn't rain, not too much traffic, and the altitude is ok (compared to the rest of Bolivia;-) Tarrifs are ok, bikes as well.

We visited Tarija and wondered what is there to do. I came across the shop and stopped to ask about potential cycling activities. I was given the cycling options, prices and clear understanding of the area and experience level.We took the longest cycling route - wine route which was lovely. Nice wineries, bikes worked quite well, just one had a small difficulty with breaks (so check them before leaving!). We were picked up at the end of our journey on time and Ernesto even stopped for us at the bus terminal so we can buy tickets to Sucre. We were given full bicycle repair kit before we left as well as helmets, gloves and jackets.

Viernes 13/02 luego de recibir un papel promocional en nuestro hotel decidimos llamar por telefono y no contestaron, por lo cual nos acercamos a la sucursal de Ingavi /ballivian encontrandola cerrada, tocamos la puerta sin respuesta y una persona que iba pasando nos dice que el local está cerrado porque estan comprando nuevo equipamiento.Deberian informar a la cadena hotelera local que el lugar se encuentra cerrado e incluso a la oficina de informacion turistica de la plaza Fuentes y Vargas quienes tampoco estaban en conocimiento que el lugar ya no funcionaba y tambien contaban con folletos informativos del lugar.

El servicio de Sur Bike es muy bueno y el Departamento de Tarija, al sur de Bolivia, es una región ideal para conocerla en bicicleta. Los paisajes son tan variados porque se puede bajar desde el altiplano tarijeño a los valles floridos y bajar aún más, a lugares tropicales¡

en mi visita estuvo el local cerrado: su horario de atencion
