In a not too interesting city (locals we met confirmed this) this is the best experience and worthy of a wander. It has history, small pubs, restaurants and cafes and has a lot of liveliness.
Have an ice cream at Vincek Slastičarnica and ask for chocolate topping! Have lunch and a beer at Pivnica Mali Medo. And buy records at the Record Store at Ulica Ivana Tkalčića 34.
Beautiful, lots to see and do. Just wander around and experience the atmosphere. Xmas lights, and quaint, picturesque buildings and streets. Lots of cafes, restaurants etc. Go
After wandering around take a seat and do some people watching. Great place to spend an hour or 2 or longer.
This town is a bomboniera , small and full of beautiful , boutiques , many shoes shops coffee bars . People drink extraordinary quantities of coffees and many times a day , so you can find lot of coffee bars .
There were many nice places to sit and watch the world go by, as well as old buildings, statues, and excellent museums. Something for everyone.
But a great view of a teaming city. Enjoyed best around 5 pm when the people gather in the square to wait for their tram. A few street musicians and great for people watching.
If you get a tourist map of Zegreb it will probably have walking routes of both upper and lower town. A good way to see the sights of Zegreb at your own pace. The lower town is south of Trg Bana Jelacica , a large monument in the central square. Take in the Gallery and Theatre as both are great buildings. You'll pass plenty of shops cafes and bars to divert into if you wish.
Easy access to the upper town. Every kind of shop, restaurant, cafe etc. Easy walk to the museums. theatre, train station, botanical gardens etc.
Was so busy in lower town we went back 4 times just to see everything that is going on so many restuarants shops ect. Horses were riding in the streets they playd drums music was playing ect. We enjoyed the lower town and alot of souverniour shops.
Worth a walk around. Typical large city. Visit the open air market, but don't believe the vendors. Many handcrafted items are mass produced, probably in China, and only the in season fruits are locally grown. Lots of statues around, too.
Zagreb's Lower Town is busy, vibrant, and alive with outdoor cafes and restaurants, shoppers hustling from store to store, and people-watchers. The emphasis here is on youth and the young people here are contagious, making the entire city throb with excitement.
Our favorite part was the market , it has everything you need.First you see the flower market with lots of different types and qualities of flowers. Then you climb up the stair and you got all the fruits( melon, forest fruits, pears, apples...) and fresh veggies. Then there is a fish market and on the down level are the meat shops, home made cheese, bakeries and many other things. Also there are lots of souvenirs for sale and all this for lovely prices. There are many stores and restaurant nearby.Well worth to visit it!
Shop local from the farmers wives, fantastically fresh and varied good (especially if you've been travelling in Hungary as we had where variety in a vegetable shop is hard to vine by). Be prepared to smile and barter, drink a coffee at a cafe around the square Zagreb style. Great for food and to see Zagreb buzzing.
Lower town is a very crowded place full of young people and tourists. Many stores and restaurants. Many trams cross the main street and it is very easy to reach different places in town
