PBTS seems like a thriving community theater. I'm glad SOMEBODY is filling this important niche! The quality of their productions is all over the place. I saw one very excellent show (Rent) there recently - it was first class community theater. Other shows have been less successful.
They do have talented actors. But management is bent on offering only off-the-wall, non-mainstream, never-been-heard-of shows. I don't mind a little of this, but it gets tedious after a while. And there's usually a reason that they've "never-been-heard-of." They usually just aren't very good. They do have a loyal, but small following, and they will likely continue to limp along. But, it just isn't very entertaining, and certainly not at the prices they charge. For me, ABET will almost always be a better choice.
Clearly one of the best options for great entertainment in Jacksonville. Cutting edge, high quality live theatre for a fraction of the cost of comparable choices for a night on the town
I've been attending productions of Players By the Sea for more than 30 years. The local acting talent is amazing.
This was a fabulous find. I will go to every show every time I am at the beach! Went to see Young Frankenstein, and to my surprise, the voices were amazing, actors fab, especially Igor and the "Assistant (blonde)". The group numbers were really fun, and the acting superb. I'd give up the broadway series for this theater any day!
One of two local amateur theaters at the beach, both dependably good, even do local authors, somewhat of a rival to the long running Alhambra dinner theatre which is a little bit inland
The shows well done. Don't expect an expensive Broadway production, but you will still be surprised by the quality of acting and the production overall. The best part is that all the people that go and work in this theatre are happy and friendly. That makes the entire night enjoyable.
What better way to spend an evening than at the theatre. This theatre has been around for over 45 years. I've been coming for the past 16. The shows are amazing. Players has two separate stages. The main stage and studio theatre feature 12+ shows a year. Check their website to make sure what's playing. Not all shows appropriate for little kids, however they do have a children's theatre program as well.
