I expected more from this area. The wineries are ok and maybe if you were on a tour it would be fun but I didn't see much there to do. Went to Hellars and felt pushed into a tasting of wines I didn't care for.Paid my $10 and left.Shopping was lacking as well.
My wife and I stayed in Carmel and had a great time which we expected but we did not expect was to find an amazing Malbec at a local vineyard! The folks at the tasting room were so friendly and helpful and I ended up having a couple of bottles shipped back to my home state. They have a lot of great wines but malbecs are my favorite and I was pleasantly surprised to find such a good one! Cheers!
With this being one of the only all organic wineries in the area, we of course had to do the wine tasting here. Very great different wines, a good balance of flavors and none of the wines I tried had a too strong oak flavor. I absolutely loved the sweeter dessert wine "Late Harvest Riesling" and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Staff wonderful nice place taste wine in carmel valley beautiful surrounding the owners there very pleasant place llok taste wine all merlot and one port
This place has very nice staff, and the tastings were good, all organic. The area (Santa Lucia Highlands) usually has great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to name a few. With that, most have a distinctive minerality to the wine, and some well crafted ones also have an herbal or spice note as well, not too dry or sweet. Unsure if the organic played a part here, but though drinkable and not too expensive, none had the character I was looking for. Nonetheless, popular with tours as they have a nice grassy area to eat, drink, and recharge (and yes, potty break). Cute tasting room also.
Our second time visiting the Wine tasting room in Carmel of Heller Vineyards was as pleasurable as the first. We aren't necessarily into organic foods, but Heller makes some lovely wines at a decent price point. Our tasting experience was low-key and all of our questions were answered without any snobbery or condescending tone. I certainly am not a wine connoisseur but do know what my tastes are. We decided to join the wine club and received the discount on the spot for the purchase of 6 bottles and we paid for them to ship to our home. Upon arrival of our shipment, there were only 5 bottles instead of six. A call to Rachel at Heller and our 6th bottle was on it's way at no extra cost to us, along with a very humble apology. That is customer service! If you wish to taste wine in a quaint little tasting room in Carmel Valley, check out Heller.
Lovely, local winery that does not use anything but organic growing products. Wine is truly the best I have ever tasted. We joined their wine club on the spot. Great little gift shop also.
Heller does a great job with their tasting room. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the wines are excellent, well worth a stop here on a wine-tasting tour.
This place is a great place to stop by and enjoy a very unique blend of wines that are all organic. If you are concerned with what is in your wine, stop by here and learn.
Love the idea of organic wines and this stop was on the top of my list...unfortunately for $7.00 each we should have passed. I did not like the wines at all and did not like the vibe coming from the guy doing the tastings. I felt like we were imposing. Had a much better time at the Holman Ranch Tasting room across from the Running Iron and bought a bottle there
We have been at this winery several times, and after our last visit in August I thought that I have to share our wonderful experience. The wine tasting was perfectly organized; lady, who conduct the tasting was really knowledgeable and passion about their wines; she told us interesting details about each product; it was educational experience as well; overall - very pleasant atmosphere, place is lovely decorated. The most important - wines were simply delicious. If you travel in Carmel Valley and interested in wine tasting – it is most definitely the place to visit.
We went to this winery as part of our package from our hotel. The employees were very knowledgeable about their wines and even let us try a few items not on the tasting menu. The 2002 and 2003 Cabernets were awesome. The sparkling Merlot was a kick too. The prices were very reasonable especially since their grapes are organic. You will enjoy the wine and the hospitality!
