We just spent 2 days XC skiing at the Mt Shasta Nordic Center and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was not very busy despite it being a holiday weekend so we never felt crowded at all. They have a good range of trails which are very well marked and easy to find. We stuck to the Green beginner trails and the Blue medium trails. They provided a good variety of terrain and great views of Mt Shasta itself. We did not venture out onto the Black expert trails so can only speak about the beginner trails. The staff (the center is a non-profit) were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time overall. There is no food for purchase there, just a warming hut with some tea/hot cocoa so make sure to pack a lunch.

Something to do all day. First we snowshoed and then came back when it was slightly snowing and did some skiing. Being a beginner at x-country skiing, it was perfect, easy trails, good map, very friendly staff. Just loved it.

Mt. Shasta Nordic is community based (non-profit) cross country (Nordic) ski area with about 25K of groomed and track-set trails. The 25K are nicely spread between "green" relatively flat to rolling or gradual climbing/descending through "blue" intermediate and "black difficult trails (steep requiring descending skills). The Nordic Center is open during ski season every day except Tuesdays and well groomed and tracked. Elevation is moderate (about 5000 ft ASL). Trails are general forest roads and somewhat sheltered from wind. That said, mountain winds can be gusty at times.Views of Mt. Shasta are a bonus on blue sky days.During weekends, get there early (by 10AM) on blue sky days because the Alpine ski area parking lot may fill and access to the Nordic Center restricted at the Highway 89-Ski Park Road junction.Donations accepted ($10 adult/$5 senior suggested).
