Wonderful golf course nestled in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Each hole is a chapter in a delightful story. A must play for anyone who appreciates the game.

I live across Virginia in Roanoke (250 miles away!), but I try to get over to play the "Eagle" at least once per season. What one of the 2014 reviewers said about the course needing some repairs is true, but please do not get the impression that every sand trap is a muddy mess. I played here on Wed. July 30th, 2014, and only saw a few of the traps (I tried to look at most of them) that were desperately in need of being ripped apart and being restored. I used to be on a golf committee, and that is the ONLY way that will last to fix a sand trap with major drainage issues. The other thing that needs attention now are cart paths. The dozens of old hardwood trees (mostly oak ones, I think) have been causing the cart paths to have serious bumps in them on almost every hole. Not every inch of cart path needs repair .... but if capital funds could be found it would be great if they could rip up the most severely damaged sections and "verticut" the roots of the trees that are causing the upheavals. But hey, this is one SPECTACULAR golf course!! Both the 9th and 18th holes are approach shots over water to elevated greens. Use extra club!! They and several other holes (5th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th) are beautiful but sometimes deadly, like a femme fatale.

We enjoyed this long golf course, which is also available for walking on the cart paths. You may sight an eagle.

The title says it all. There is a lot of deferred maintenance on the golf course. It is without a doubt the best designed golf course on the northern neck. It's current condition doesn't do justice to the vision in the original design work.

In beautiful shape when we played it. Very challenging holes as well as beautiful scenery. Easy distance from The Tides Inn.

The guys in my party loved the course. Reasonable fees. The course is kept well. Can't find anything wrong.

I live in Florida, but my in-laws house is two miles from the course. I have been playing there for the past 27 years. All year long I look forward to summer visits and the chance to play this magnificent course. As soon as you pull into the parking lot you can feel the stress just disappear. The pros, Rich and Don, as well as every staff member have always been corteous and professional in every aspect. Course conditions can vary each year depending on their winter and spring weather. However, in general, the course is in great condition. The 9th and 18th holes finish next to each other and from the fairways you have to drive over a long bridge to reach the greens. From the greens the view looking back towards the fairways in magnificent. I am a PGA golf professional and play many different courses. The Golden Eagle has always been my favorite.

This was a beautiful golf course that we wouldn't mind playing again later in the season. Unfortunately, while we were there the fairway grass was dormant and it had been raining hard, so the ball didn't roll as much as we would have liked. No one else played that morning while we were there.

Be sure to reserve a cart ahead of time. Usually can walk on, but they don't have many carts and no caddys

The golf pro (Rich) moves heaven and earth to make your golf experience the best that it can be. Course is both challenging and fun to play, and the lunch special is an excellent value. We have been coming to the Golden Eagle for close to 20 years, and we will continue to do so every year.

Actually, we stuck to the "Little Eagle" right on the main grounds of the Inn. Nine holes, each between 75 and 130 yards. Step out of your room with a few clubs, get a good "short game" workout, and be having drinks on the patio in about 45 minutes. We were there in spring, before the "season" started, and could play anytime; had the whole "course" to ourselves. Not much in the way of hazards, but the grooming measured up to any "full size" course. This would be a great place to introduce kids or beginners to golf.

Just played three rounds @ this course. It was in pretty good shape and only had a couple wet spots a day after receiving two inches of rain. It is a fair course with three sets of mens tees to cater to different skill levels. Strategy does come in to play due to water and the doglegs. If you are in the area, you should play a round here. The two pros (Rich and Don) were great to work with. Also, had a nice lesson with Don while I was there.

the layout was nice, but the condition could have been better. maybe, the condition will improve as the temps warm up..

The Golden Eagle is a great course. Challenging and beautiful! Great par fives and very doable par threes. I had a one hour lesson with the PGA pro Don Nelson. It was worth every penny. He covered sound fundamentals and plenty of practice swings. I actually shed off five strokes of my final score. The course is well maintained and just beautiful. The only thing I would like to see improve is their yardage markers. Sometimes they were difficult to locate. Overall a great experience!
