One room specializes in all things locale and western as Weatherford was an old west town. Another is dedicated to the great Actress Mary Martin who was born and raised in Weatherford, Texas. Many of her personal costumes are on display.
I quite enjoyed this location to while away an hour. It starts with Native American history and on to pioneers, trail drives and more modern history. Many of the items are things you can see in any Old West museum. In the lobby you can even climb into a replica Overland Mail Coach and I would never have known that Weatherford was famous for its watermelons otherwise.
Nice little museum, nothing great, but worth the visit if you are in town. They do have some nice artifacts if you like old west and trail drives.
Loved the place and the ambiance around. Recommended place to visit with family to spent around and for a weekend trip.
I've DJ'ed (and Emcee'd) numerous weddings at the Doss and found the staff very professional as well as accommodating. They have a very "DJ friendly" environment & attitude there and I always look forward to DJ'ing events at the DH&CC. In fact, just a week or so back, I received a call from one of their staffers who needed a wedding DJ that very evening because of an emergency situation with another DJ service but....I had a wedding rehearsal that same evening elsewhere in the West O' Plex. Parker County has several unique wedding venue locales and the Doss Heritage & Cultural Center is toward the top of my list with about 2 others. DJ Jim Plummer, SoundworkS Productions, Weatherford, Texas NOTE: My website (soundworksdeejay.com) is under re-construction since I've just changed servers--please be patient another week or so until my domain transfer comes thru to the new server. For now you find us on Facebook. Thank you.
If you need a first class venue to book for a large event or dinner--this is your place. Very tastefully decorated in Old West decor..and yet easy to get in and out with excellent parking.
Very small museum, not much to see. Special exhibits may make it worth going to but when I went, there was not much to look at.
Beautiful setting for a wedding, that is if you like the Western Heritage environment. It is an interesting place to visit.
Lovely grounds. Caterer provided great food. Very nicely set tables. Provided a cordless microphone which was passed around for guests to introduce themselves and give wishes to the bridge and groom.
The Doss Heritage and Cultural Center provides a great place for business meetings and can hold a lot of people. They provide wonderful art exhibits, historical background and is a gem in the heart of Parker County!
The large meeting room is bright with big windows on one side. Has an area for catering, good sound system and projection equipment. They set it all up. Great staff. A varied list of good caterers to choose from. The museum provides the visitor with a peek into the heritage of the county including Mary Martin and son Larry " J. R." Hagman.
