This museum is small but it has some excellent stuff to lok at. Lots of Indian, war and cowboy artifacts...I enjoyed everything at this place and can't wait to take my newlywed husband there because he would SUPER enjoy everything they have. Fun place.

The Gatchell Museum has great local history that you wont find anywhere else in Johnson County. They are always rotating exhibits so you see something new almost every time you visit!

A small well done museum located just up the street from the Occidental Hotel, it has interesting coverage of the Johnson County range war and artifacts from the Jim Gatchell (Indian) collection. Worth a visit. Be aware it closes early now that summer is over. We would have liked to stay longer.

This museum is much bigger inside than appears on the outside and gives the tourist a good picture of Northern Wyoming history, especially the Johnson County Cattle wars. Staff replied quickly to an extra request for research information. Gift shop has a lot of area interest books, gifts for children and fun items. Worth the stop in "Longmire" town

Since this is a small town, it does have alot of history about the surounding area, during the earlier years. Most of everything in the museum came from the Jim Gatchell family.

This is a serious museum for the avid researcher of the development of the West. A bit overwhelming in terms if detail and breadth of exhibits for the casual holiday visitor.

Staff were very friendly and loved to discuss the area's history. Displays were amazing especially the ones about the cattlemen wars and local tribes. We were impressed with the quality of this museum.

Learn the early Buffalo history. Lots of Native american artifacts. The early history of the cattle industry was well done.

Well laid out. $5 fee. I spent two hours enjoying the walk through the Earliest settlers, Tribal life, the encroachment of white civilization, the battle stories, early ranching, the Tom Horn story, Johnson county war, the story about Bomber Ridge, and the growth of Johnson County and the town of Buffalo.

This museum is a hidden jewel. it is much larger than it appears on the outside. It has tons of artifacts and describes the local history perfectly.

This museum looks rather small on the outside but it is larger than one thinks! If you love history, this is the place for you. There are so many exhibits! Our group was divided into 2 groups. One shopped while the other took the tour of the building. Our guides (we had 2 different ones) made the history found in the museum, come alive. It's not only history in the 1800's but more recent history as well.

We toured the Jim Gatchell Museum while in Buffalo, Wyoming for the Longmire Days street festival last week. In my opinion, this is a "MUST SEE" attraction if you really want to get a feel for the history of the Buffalo/Johnson County area. I was impressed with the wide variety of exhibits in the museum, and the 3 hours we spent there seemed to go very quickly. The museum has a nice gift shop, and the museum staff are friendly and helpful.

It is wonderful to see a collection of great western facts and items. Well worth the admission fee to see. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of area facts of interest.

Upon first entering I figured this would be a museum like all others, but was surprised to learn this was not so. There are new displays around every corner, encompassing the history of the town, the people in it, and the things Jim Gatchell collected. All of it was done in a neat fashion, and those that worked there were on hand to answer any questions that we had. There were areas for children to discover things also, like the different furs. This is geared more towards adults, but is friendly enough for children. There is no photography allowed inside the museum.

It was less than perfect weather when we were in Buffalo but we visited the visitor centre and got a recommendation to go here. Quite amazing to think that one man accumulated such a collection and also inspired the town to make such an interesting set of exhibits to go with it. The staff were also extremely nice and gave us lots of information too. Recommended to find out more about the history of the area.
