The only reason I give this review a low rating is because every single time we've been here it's been closed. So sad. We've tried about 5 times. Please post hours of operation at the entrance!

It was originally intended to be for handicapped only usage but has opened up to the general public. They have leanto camping to accommodate handicaps, trails that are handicapped accessible, a pretty lake in a wilderness setting. It is staffed in the summer by Paul Smiths College interns.

I wish I had known about John Dillon Park years ago . The accessibility , the scenery, and the staff all made for a wonderful camping experience .

Loved the water, the accessibility and the facilities. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly! We got a wonderful tour of the park and used the water for some relaxing canoe trips.

Camping available. Gently graded hiking trails. This was originally opened as a park for handicapped only. Electric pontoon boat for enjoying the water.

We loved the trails! Real trails for power wheelchairs! The longer trail (a few miles) was wonderful, not just a puny 1/4 mile paved trail. Surface: smooth crushed gravel. Ended at a small beach. However, the road to the trail desperately needs work. Our lowered floor van hit bottom many times, even with great care in driving.

Rough road getting there, but peaceful and quiet and very easy walking trails. If you want a fairly primitive place to camp that's away from it all (noise, etc.) this would be the place!

You will love the informative, laid back folks from Paul Smith's College who guide your way in this disabilities-friendly environment. Whether you are camping in the lean-tos with chopped wood waiting for your supper fire, or hiking on the wide gravel trails back in to Handsome Pond (5 miles round trip) or cruising Grampus Lake on the silent electric party boat with their provided binoculars, you will find yourself immersed in the heart of the ADK. Donations happily accepted; make a reservation if you are planning to camp. Bring bug spray and/or netting. Great for all ages!
