This was an amazing way to spend a rainy day. However, the only thing is that on a rainy day the outside bus tours did not run, so, we could not take advantage of that. The most amazing experience was walking into the hangar and seeing the Saturn V on its side in 4 pieces. Wow, what a sight. Be sure to save plenty of time for that, as that is where we spent most of our time, and took mostly all of our pictures! It was a learning experience, but wear comfortable shoes as it is a lot of walking.
We stopped in to get a map as we are new to the area. The woman inside wouldnt leave our side! They're actually we very nice but were over zealous for their love of all things Huntsville. We would like to go back and look around when we could do so by ourselves!
Helpful information and coupons for attractions around Huntsville are available. Maps and suggestions are given out. Having just relocated to Huntsville area, I made this a stop for info.
we should have gone here before the space museum as it would have saved $5 a ticket. They were wonderful and you can also get a free picture with the space museum as a background. At the museum they charge $20 for the same thing. Brenda offered lots of suggestions for things to do and even had helpful ideas for destin, fl, our next stop. She could not have been more helpful guiding us to their doorstep even though we had no idea if we were headed north or south. They have a cd for a walk or drive around the historic area. Well worth the stop!
What a great place to gather information on a Huntsville visit. The center is easy to find, nicely decorated, fully stocked with information. The staff was very helpful in recommending things to see and do and accommodations for our stay. There is even a booth for a selfie with different backgrounds. Great experience!
On my first ever visit to Huntsville I stopped into the visitor center downtown and was so very impressed with the space and the helpfulness I received there. In moments I had a fresh bottle of water given to me and a map and was engaged in easy conversation about all the things I might enjoy nearby I was interested in the art museum and the women there mentioned I might like to also see an artist colony in the nearby old cotton factory. When I asked about lunch locations they offered me great ideas and marked everything on the map. There could be no better welcome than this visitor center offers. The place if colorful, alive with lovely displays, and ready, knowledgeable information
The visitor's center is nicer than many others I have been to in other areas. It is conveniently located downtown and they have a good stock of lots of local information available. The one thing they don't have (and we have found impossible to locate in the area) are Huntsville and/or Madison County road maps. That's the FIRST thing they need to order and keep on hand. The staff is very helpful. If you are in the area seeking information, this is a great place to go -- unless you're looking for local maps.
I've been here multiple times, especially when I first moved here, and always enjoyed the experience. The employees always treated me like a long time friend, or due to my age a prodigal grandson. They know all the local events, best ways of getting places, and where the best eats are. I've always felt welcomed there.
When you're new to the area its always best to start at the beginning with people in the know. You'll find them at the Huntsville Visitor Center. Just tell them what you want to see and they will get your there, and provide discount coupons for some attractions too.
The visitor center is staffed by some very helpful women who know the history of the area. I visit them often as I do a 10K walk that starts from the VC. You can get lots of information about activities in the local area. My favorites are the 10K walk around the Twickenham and Old Town historic districts and the Luck Duck Scavenger Hunt. Both give you a great opportunity to discover downtown Huntsville and an opportunity to become acquainted with this wonderful city. The scavenger hunt is not particularly easy so it is challenging for adults as well as children. If you are able to locate all of the ducks tucked into various corners of downtown you receive a price of a rubber ducky garbed in space themed attire. When you come to Huntsville please start at the VC!
The three ladies staffing the help desk were a delight to talk with on a Saturday morning. They answered all of our questions and pointed us to the Weeden House, and gave us a walking tour booklet for the antebellum homes around there. Highly recommend visiting the Huntsville Visitor Center!
I live here but took my dad when he came to visit in August of last year. Please make sure you visit the Visitors Center. They have all the info anyone could possilby need visiting Huntsville. They also offer coupons for all kinds of places.
Gosh, talk about Southern Hospitality - the two ladies who were there just could not help us enough - suggesting a restaurant that turned out to be outstanding and giving us solid directions to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center. Very nice place, extremely clean. Great start to our Trip!!!
