It was busy but it didn't take that long to play (less than 4-1/2 hours). The course had a lot of character (read: sand traps and water). We would have gone back again, but the weather turned awful and we didn't get to play again before we left.

While vacationing in Gulf Shores area, played Gulf State Park Golf Course. Was surprised they had senior rates. The course was in very good condition for February. It was a fun course to play. Lots of snowbirds.

We were here in October 2014, and the weather was 80 or better every day for two weeks! Grant, in the pro shop very friendly, and had no problem getting on in early pm. The course is pretty much wide open for duffers like my wife and I, and water hazards were at a minimum, as were sand traps. Play 9 or 18. A nice place to play a round and get some exercise for not a whole lot of money. They also have some very nice looking cabins for rent overlooking a small lake, not far from the course.

Greens were the slowest we played all year. This could be a nice course but it seems poorly maintained. Very disappointed, and definitely not wort $40.

Very playable course for all skill levels. The course has very few blind spots but several holes with water obstacles. Staff is very nice and there is a good snack bar.

We played 9-hole twice during our week stay at the campground. Good value for the greens fees but as is typical drinks were expensive. Paid over $20 for a 6 pack of Coors light.again - that's typical of most courses. Greens were pretty well kept but brace yourself for a bumpy ride- the cart paths need some serious work. Not so bad that we wouldn't go back though.

I play this course often and the improvements keep on coming. At the height of the summer the fairways are excellent, however if you land your ball in the rough its is at the mercy of the nature could be hard or soft do to the heat and amount of rain. The greens are well kept. I love the fact that you use every club in your bag and love the layout. The grill is also wonderful and the best is the staff . I play this course often and lo e it. You can play as solo or in a foursome enjoy your day

As I pretty experienced golfer I enjoy coming to different parts of the country and trying out several kinds of golf courses. The refuge/Gulf state park course was a diamond in the rough! It's off the beaten path quite a ways but not too far out of the way. It's a well maintained older course. The back 9 could use a little work but the front 9 was very nice. The Marshall was a very kind man who let my wife and I play by ourselves even though they were fairly busy. I'll be playing here again for sure!

Couples day on the course. Laid back atmosphere. Course is definitely not a resort course but was nice to play. Forgiving fairways and large greens make it great for average golfers.

We were scheduled to play 36 holes here last week and the course is nice enough to do that. It's wide open and there are some fun holes. The staff was great and bartender and pro were super nice. Sounds like more than 2 stars, right? I rank this DEAD LAST of the 5 courses we played in the area, because it was SO SLOW. They let octogenarian 5-somes out before our 9:30 tee time, that we caught on #3. WE WAITED EVERY SHOT FOR 5 HOURS! Not the worst course, but the worst experience.

A great course to play if you are in the Gulf Shores Al area. It is close to the beach and the course if challenging yet not too hard. Price was good..........$25 plus $15 for a cart. Played as a single and was done in 2.5 hours. Played during the week so that helped. Full grill menu and the staff was super!

I was told that Gulf State Park Golf Course had the best price for a driving range. Not so! The best place is located in Foley with a friendlier atmosphere. I walked in to Gulf State and asked how many balls you got for your money and I was informed the precise number. Most driving ranges have a bucket out to see what size you get rather than giving you a number. So, I asked how big that was thinking they might have a bucket. The woman at the desk was so sarcastic. She said the number again and that was the size. So, I paid the amount and she gave me a token telling me not to hit the token 50 times instead of a ball. Being a stranger I didn't know where to use the token and was informed :"Down by the cart house, of course" as if I should have known that all my life. So, if you want to be treated like a human, go to Foley and get more balls!

This course is awesome played it and even after all the rain it wasn't bad. And the price was the best deal in South Baldwin County for a round of golf.

Have played here many times. Whenever in town I always play here at least once. Great hotdogs at the turn.
