the disappointing menu options and tired decor (could do with a refresh!) was offset but pleasant and helpful gentleman behind the bar. it was surprisingly quiet for a saturday afternoon, which added to the slight off-putting atmosphere.i feel its badge as a 'delightful venue for a wedding' might be overstated..

Pros;-Plenty of parking-Lots of signage to the general area-During the self guided tour- were given a hand held device that had recorded parts of the brewery and what its function was.-Free taste testing with the self-guided tour ~ $7.50 each for self tour.-Friendly staff. They allowed us to pay with eftpos after the tour as they had a $20 minimum. We decided to get a drink each to meet the minimum price.-Beer was nice. Especially the light ale.Cons;-Felt we were intruding upon walking to find the front door. A few walkways and gates/doors to open before you made it to the counter-Map we were given was slightly confusing-Maybe the tour by the staff would have been better?-Yard looked run down (maybe because it was winter and the vines were dormant)-Areas where we looked were not a 'functioning' brewery. Purely only historical information from 'back in the day'We enjoyed it. Probably will go back for a beer one day however, we're not locals.

Enjoyed the self-guided tour. Hubby enjoyed the beer and bought some home. Very impressed with the flavour of the place.

We attended a function at the brewery and were appalled. Very poor service by one of the staff, they ran out of red wine in the first half hour (who does that?) and dinner was bland. When one of us needed cutlery we were told to look on other tables. When we went back and said there was none left, a knife and fork were thrust unceremoniously in our hands.Would not recommend for a function. Overpriced and underwhelming. Work on your customer service!

We met here with friends and given the reviews thought we would have a beer and think about where to go to eat but the German fare sounded good and a band of Irish players was setting up so we decided to stay. Glad we did it was a lovely simple meal, all the food was tasty and fresh and the service attentive. We hope the site can be restored and better utilised as it looks such a promising function venue and the history worth preserving.

Very interesting, and when you have finished the tour you can sample the beer etc, and have something to eat. Nice afternoon.

This is an important part of goulburn a history and is interesting in that respect. But when I was there drinking with friends the staff didn't seem to be happy to serve us or that we were there and to how with that the drinks were slightly overpriced.

We booked this place as our wedding reception venue. Gorgeous little building with a wonderful space.... Perfect for what we were looking for... Such a shame it turned out so terribly. The staff/owner/manger were rude and unhelpful from the moment they took our deposit and we were locked in! We wanted a very simple menu...which we picked out ourselves... They charged us $65 a head and it was DISGRACEFUL! No one could eat the mains, most were still raw, desert was a joke! Staff then cut people from the bar if they didn't eat their mains. The staff did nothing to present the venue for a wedding. They presented the meals on chipped miss matched crockery and the cream for desert was served in the mix master bowl. We were so disappointed to see such a gorgeous venue turn so horribly wrong. This venue has the potential to be an amazing draw card for Goulburn. I will never recommend this venue to anyone while under the current management.

This was just awful. I had pictured something else after viewing its website - I wish I had check on tripadvisor first. Their information is not accurate - we came at 10am to join a guided tour which from their website are meant to run regularly on Saturdays, but when we arrived there was no one about. Found a sign which said by appointment - great help. Not. There was a very lame market being held in the grounds with about 4 stalls but that was it. We went around some of the out buildings and I saw a clothes horse with some man's undies drying in the sun - what the????? So we finally found where you are supposed to go in and we followed our way around looking for where to pay but found not a soul. Given what we saw i wouldn't have paid for a tour guided or self guided. It's a pity, this place has so much potential and so much history but it's largely overgrown and neglected. We couldn't even see where you'd go to sample the brew or have lunch it was that badly sign posted and cared for.

Designed by architect, Francis Greenway, the old Goulburn Brewery has many grand old buildings on it's estate. And considering there is so much there, it's disappointing to find out that you can only access very little of it when you visit. What you get for around the $10 per person 'self-guided' tour isn't much at all and paying more for a guided tour, I don't think is any more advantageous. The shame of it is that due to lack of funding, much of it is in disrepair and as you go through the areas on display, the history is taken away when you see it's also been used for modern day receptions and parties. For example, seeing a mirror ball and strobe lighting sitting in what was "The Maltings" room seems disrespectful. Having read articles that mention the complex continues to brew ales in the time-honoured traditional way, I did not see any of this! I enjoyed what historical significance I did see, but thought there was so much more potential with this beautiful iconic site. The grounds are overgrown and much of the estate is in dire need of restoration and it saddens me to see this. I wouldn't like to recommend a visit fearing you too may be disappointed.
