The trail is a boardwalk predominately over a marsh, so it is accessible to most everyone. Walking both legs of the trail (it splits) totals almost 2 miles. There are informative plaques along the way that lets you know what flora and fauna are out there and why it is important to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Parking is nearby and a concrete path leads you to the above-water trail. Worth the walk!
Interesting walk along trail through local wildlife area. Beautiful bay inlets with different types of birds, fish, etc easily visible. The trail also follows an old railroad rail line converted to rails to trails walking/biking route.
The trail is very well maintained, primarily boardwalk made of recycled material pathway and wood rails, with stamped pavement portions as well. There are benches throughout the boardwalk potion as well as informational placards describing the different aspects of the natural surroundings. The only downside was the lack of shade throughout the boardwalk portion and lack of benches on the shaded concrete portion. The flat one mile walk (two miles round trip) was perfect for me in my 7-months pregnant state. Just a bit hot!
The walk was good. The city obviously put lots of money into the trail. Good information boards along the way, VERY VERY hard to find amongst all the boats and parking lots! It took 4 people to explain where it started! You walk out--- get to the end and come back. Good job with information boards along the way.
We use this trail often, lots of wildlife to see and enjoy. Only thing is make sure you wear the bug spray in the heat of the summer, there are sections that will get you..
This is an easy walk for all ages with a close-up view of the wetlands/Chesapeake Bay tributaries. The boardwalk is new and easy. You will see lots of water-life and birds. The day we were there we were treated to a bald eagle flying over head and then perching up in a tree not too far away. As a kid, my mom told me stories of taking the train to Chesapeake Beach and it was really cool to see the old railroad tracks along the way.
Great gentle walk along an easy trail alongside the water with good opportunities to see the wildlife.
The trail consists partly of a new boardwalk next to Fishing Creek on the left (as you head out) and marshland on the right. The trail splits where it crosses the creek. If you walk to the left, you'll cross the creek and the trail is actually a modern path that follows the old railroad tracks. It stops at a scenic, peaceful bend further up Fishing Creek. If you turn right, the path/boardwalk takes you past some homes then over more marshland and into some woods, and it deadends at another housing development. You can get about 2 1/2 miles in if you walk the whole trail and back. There are benches and good signs about local wildlife along the way. Plenty of free parking in second lot behind the Chesapeake Beach Aquatic center. Over the past year I've seen white egrets, ducks, geese, osprey, herons, bald eagles, water snakes, a large water turtle and a beaver!
Will take you back to your childhood days. Place not very big,but very well done. Check out website for times & special events.
